Bernard Mathis
Bernard Mathis was born in Washington D.C., but lived in Clinton, NC until the age of 10. He moved to Freehold, New Jersey, where he matriculated and graduated from Freehold High School in 1970. Mr. Mathis is a 1974 graduate of Hampton University, receiving a degree in Physical Education with concentration in Athletic Training and Swimming. In 2024, he was inducted into Hampton University Hall Athletic Hall of Fame. After receiving his degree, Mr. Mathis furthered his education, attending Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. However, after one year of Graduate School, Mr. Mathis moved to Montgomery, Alabama to become the Head Athletic Trainer and Head Swim Coach for Alabama State University, where he remained until 1984.
After is tenure at Alabama State University, Bernard became a full-time Life Insurance Agent. Mr. Mathis wanted to broaden his horizon into the insurance and investment markets. He decided to venture into the securities arena, passing his securities exam in 1994 to become licensed to market mutual funds.
In 2002, Mr. Mathis was recognized nationally as a Top Salesperson and received the Wilkerson Sword Award. Mr. Mathis was also affiliated with Allstate Insurance until 2009 and New York Life until 2019, prior to starting his own company, Mathis Financial Services.
